Many women refer to cellulite as the cottage cheese just beneath the skin. Others claim that it gives their skin an orange peel look. No matter how you describe it, cellulite is a plague on even the most normal weight, active woman. Its presence is determined based on genetics and hormones more so than weight and lifestyle, so no amount of working out or dieting can eliminate it in most cases. Before succumbing to expensive plastic surgery procedures for a quick fix, try a cellulite reduction product like Nivea, Revitol, or Neutrogena for a cost-effective way to firm the skin.
Don’t give in to fancy advertising. There is no miracle cure for cellulite. It’s important to be realistic and realize that you are looking for a cellulite reduction, not a complete elimination. The best you can hope for is that the cottage cheese look of your thighs will be reduced to the point where you feel comfortable strutting around in a bathing suit. It’s also important to realize that using an anti-cellulite cream or lotion means a twice-daily commitment to massaging the product into the skin. You should also be aware that the product only works as long as you use it, so there are no permanent effects that last beyond the product use.
With that said, cellulite reduction creams and gels are effective. They can firm and tone skin giving it a healthier appearance and some even work to get rid of some of the cellulite underneath the skin. Look for ingredients like caffeine, retinol-A, green tea, Shea butter, jojoba oil, olive oil, and herbal extracts for a complete product that will improve the overall look and health of your skin as well as battle the underlying cellulite. If using a product with retinol, be sure to stay out of the sun or use adequate UV-protection since retinol exacerbates your risk of sun damage.
You can even make your own homemade cellulite reduction treatment with two or three ingredients. Blend two parts jojoba or olive oil with one part ground coffee or recycled coffee grounds, then apply this mixture in a circular massage motion to damp skin, preferably while in the shower with the water turned off. Once you have massaged the coffee blend into the skin, rinse in your normal shower and pat dry. You can even add sugar to the blender for a natural exfoliator. Apply the product to wet skin that has been warmed in the hot shower for better absorption.
