Moisturizing the skin is very important. In fact, it is proven to be one of the best ways to prevent signs of skin aging. The reason for this is because dryness makes the skin more prone to damaging. Moisturizing keeps the skin hydrated which helps it to function at the optimum level.
When the skin becomes dry, it usually cracks and peels then becomes more prone to damage from free radicals. If you still don’t know, free radicals are among the main causes of aging. Simply using a good moisturizer regularly keeps free radicals off the skin thus battling the aging process.
When to Start Moisturizing
The best time is to start now regardless of your age. Your skin will reward you later on with radiant and youthful-looking skin. As the old saying goes, prevention is better than cure. Moisturizing even when you are young keeps the skin at optimum condition. Also, moisturizing the skin is one of the best ways to have beautiful and radiant skin.
Choosing a Moisturizer
First of all, you need a separate moisturizer for your face and body. This is because the skin on your face and body are totally different. Lotions and body creams contain oils that are too rich and greasy for the pores of the face. On the other hand, most facial moisturizers do not offer sufficient hydration for very dry areas such as the knees and elbows.
For the Face
Take note that your facial moisturizer should depend on the particular skin type that you have. For oily skin, find something that has little or no oil. Take note that even oily skin requires moisturizing. Just make sure not to add oil to the already oily skin. For oily skin, oil-free moisturizers are available which will only hydrate the skin with ingredients that are water-based. For normal to dry skin, it is recommended to use something that contains natural oils like jojoba, avocado or almond oils. Apply the moisturizer twice a day, once in the morning and once at night after washing the face.
For the Body
There are numerous brands and types of body lotions and creams available today. Again, choosing one depends on your particular skin type. However, it is recommended to look for something that is made with natural ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter, honey, jojoba oil, etc. Try to stay away from products with artificial scents and coloring which can irritate the skin. The best time to apply your body moisturizer is after taking a bath.
